How to Raise Calcium Hardness Using Calcium Chloride

Calcium hardness is raised by adding calcium chloride. Pool suppliers sell two primary forms: anhydrous calcium chloride (94 to 97 percent strength, usually in small pellets) and calcium chloride dihydrate (77 percent strength, usually in flakes). Flake calcium is easier to dissolve, while pellet calcium provides more active calcium per pound.

Dosing Rule: 1.25 pounds of 77% Flake Calcium Chloride per 10,000 gallons raises Calcium Hardness by 10 ppm.
