Corona Discharge vs UV Ozone Generators

Simply bubbling ozone into a pipe is inefficient: unabsorbed gas bubbles rapidly rise to the pool surface and off-gas into the air. Effective ozone systems utilize a Mazzei venturi injector installed on a bypass loop.
As pressurized water constricts through the venturi throat, water velocity increases while pressure drops, creating a strong negative suction vacuum that draws ozone gas into the water stream. The intense mixing shears the gas into billions of micro-bubbles, maximizing the contact surface area between ozone and dissolved organic compounds.
Off-Gas De-Destruct Units and Safety
Ozone is a potent respiratory irritant at ground level. In indoor pools or pools equipped with automatic covers, unreacted ozone gas escaping from return fittings can accumulate in the air gap between water and cover, rapidly degrading cover stitching, rubber seals, and vinyl liners.
A complete commercial-grade ozone installation incorporates a degassing chamber (MDV - Micro-flocculation Degas Vessel). The chamber separates undissolved gas bubbles from the water column and directs them through an activated carbon ozone-destruct cartridge, which instantly converts O3 back into harmless breathable oxygen (O2).

No. Ozone dissolves and reacts within minutes inside the plumbing loop, leaving zero residual sanitizer in the pool basin. A low residual of free chlorine (0.5 to 1.0 ppm) is required by health codes to protect swimmers.
Does an ozone system affect pool pH or alkalinity?
No. Ozone has a neutral pH impact. Unlike chlorine tablets which drive pH down or liquid bleach which raises pH slightly, ozone oxidation does not alter pH, total alkalinity, or cyanuric acid levels.
How long should an ozone generator run each day?
The ozone generator should run whenever the primary circulation pump runs. In residential pools, operating 8 to 12 hours daily during daylight hours provides optimum water clarity.
